Urea (2015)

Urea is widely used when dyeing Procion or Acid dyes in small quantities of water, or when printing or painting. The effect of Urea is to increase the solubility of the dyes in water, and thereby reach their full potential of intensity.

An additional property of Urea is that it retains moisture even when dried, and this boosts the colour yield of the dye during the fixing stage. It also assists in the wicking of dye when tie dyeing. 

Urea is not normally needed when dyeing in large quantities of water.
