Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) (2016)
Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) is used extensively for fixing Procion dyes and Reactive CD dyes.
Soda Ash is a mild alkali, proving the sufficient alkaline conditions needed for fixing Procion dyes and Reactive CD dyes when dyeing and printing.
Washing soda is sometimes used an alternative when fixing Procion/Reactive CD dyes, but washing soda can contain caustic soda which can cause dulling and weaking of shades.
When printing silk, Sodium Bicarbonate is often recommended as it is a weaker alkali than Soda Ash. Some recipes may contain a mixture of Soda Ash and Sodium Bicarbonate for silk.
Soda Ash is sometimes used in combination with Metapex 38 Liquid to increase scouring efficiency when preparing fabrics for printing or dyeing.
