Periquest BSD is used in hard water areas to minimise the negative effects of hardness of water in dyeing and printing processes.

Hard water is caused by calcium being present in the water. If untreated, this can cause considerable dulling and weakening of almost all dye results.

The addition of Periquest BSD in hard water areas will nullify the negative effects by "wrapping up" the calcium and iron.

PERIQUEST BSD has a capacity of binding calcium at pH 10 of 50 mg calcium per g PERIQUEST BSD. The capacity of binding iron at pH 10 is 700 mg iron (III) per g PERIQUEST BSD.

Periquest BSD does not need to be used in soft water areas, or where hard water has been subjected to a softening treatment.

This product is used at the beginning of the dye process, and is generally added to the water before the fabric.
